Can I be fitted with MOWA?
The MOWA system is designed to help patients with paralysis and/or spasms in the lower extremities achieve a natural gait pattern. MOWA can be an option if you have one of the following diagnosis:
-
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
-
Apoplexy (stroke)
-
Motor Neuropathy
-
Multiple sclerosis
-
Muscular dystrophy
-
Muscular atrophy (e.g. Charcot-Marie-Tooth)
-
Peroneal palsy (i.e. after accidents or surgery complications)
-
Polio and post-polio syndrome
-
Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
-
Spina bifida
-
Spondylopathies
-
Cerebral Palsy
-
Forefoot amputations
Patients who qualify for a MOWA fitting often exhibit muscle weakness in foot dorsiflexion and an asymmetrical gait pattern. Another common symptom is the lack of initial heel contact with the ground during a step, often resulting in the forefoot or the entire flat foot making contact first. This frequently leads to a reduced swing phase.

Tailored to the needs of children and teenagers
Children and teenagers with neuromuscular diseases need special attention for orthosis fitting. Since every child is unique and develops differently, a customized first-time-right approach like the MOWA system is essential for supporting optimal development. Besides dealing with muscular deficits, children's bodies must also contend with gravity. With detailed patient analysis, small sizes, and suitable stiffness levels, MOWA-certified CPOs can provide the specialized orthosis care that children and teenagers require.

Maintain your mobility
Patients with conditions that have a fluctuating progression, like multiple sclerosis, benefit from the quick adaptability of the modular MOWA orthosis. Depending on the current situation, components can be swapped out in minutes. The spring or sole can be exchanged for a softer or stiffer variant based on the desired level of support and muscle strength.

MOWA challenges the status quo
The MOWA system brings traditional craftsmanship techniques into the digital age. By harnessing the potential of simulation, AI, carbon part manufacturing, 3D printing, and 3D scanning, MOWA offers CPOs a new tool to meet the high demands they face every day. MOWA's seamless end-to-end workflow for patient fitting initiates a process in which anonymized data clustering and virtual patient care lead to significant knowledge gains and continuous improvements in orthotic fitting.
Choose your MOWA design
As a patient, you have control over the visual design of your MOWA orthosis. During your first visit, you can choose from a wide range of colors and patterns. Whether you prefer classic black, the colors of your sports team, or color blocking—the choice is yours.
Look forward to MOWA Smart—the first integrated orthosis sensor for activity monitoring. Currently, every MOWA orthosis is equipped with a dummy sensor. Soon, patients will be able to upgrade and make their orthosis smart. Track your activity level, let feedback motivate you to stick to your therapy program, and experience your success firsthand.
